FBI Investigated Whether Trump Was Working For Russia

The probe was meant to test whether the firing of Comey was something that could be considered a national security threat, according to the report.

The criminal and counterintelligence elements were coupled together into one investigation, former law enforcement officials said in interviews in recent weeks, because if Trump had ousted the head of the FBI to impede or even end the Russian Federation investigation, that was both a possible crime and a national security concern.

Robert Mueller, who was appointed as the special counsel after Comey's firing, then took over the investigation in regard to Russian election interference.

Giuliani also attempted to downplay the Democratic investigations in the House as lawmakers prepare to dig into the Trump campaign's contacts with Russian operatives. The Times said it was unclear whether Mueller was still pursuing it.

The decision to investigate Trump himself was an aggressive move by FBI officials who were confronting the chaotic aftermath of the firing of Mr. Comey and enduring the president's verbal assaults on the Russian Federation investigation as a "witch hunt," the Times reported.

"Agents and senior F.B.I. officials had grown suspicious of Mr. Trump's ties to Russian Federation during the 2016 campaign but held off on opening an investigation into him, the people said, in part because they were uncertain how to proceed with an inquiry of such sensitivity and magnitude". Trump's attorney, Rudy Giuliani, thinks the President's legal team should have the opportunity to "correct" the document...

President Trump said he was unaware of Mr. Whitaker's past statements about Mr. Mueller's probe and that he would "not get involved" if Mr. Whitaker moved to curtail it.

The grand jury empaneled by the special counsel has been extended for another six months, however, signaling that the probe may continue beyond the winter.

Trump and his allies have repeatedly criticized Mueller's investigation, calling it a "witch hunt" and questioning the political motivations of his investigators. Russian Federation also has denied collusion. "This is absurd. James Comey was sacked because he's a disgraced partisan hack and his deputy Andrew McCabe who was in charge of the time is a known liar fired by the Federal Bureau of Investigation". No longer is this about what Manafort did prior to ever even entering Trump's orbit. She also disputed that Trump had ever been soft on Russian Federation. However, it is not known if he is still looking into the investigation against Trump.
