Update 12/31/2018: The identity of the 7-year-old girl who was fatally shot outside of a Houston Walmart was revealed as Jazmine Barnes.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez identified the shooter as "a white male, 40s, a beard", in a Twitter post. "She's not talking.' I turned around and my 7-year-old was shot in the head", Washington said.

"The family should be celebrating and spending time together anticipating the new year and instead they're making plans to bury this innocent, precious child", Gonzalez said.

"Because we will be looking for you, we will locate you, we will find you", Razo said.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office on Monday asked for video that may help them track a red pickup that pulled alongside a vehicle Sunday carrying Jazmine Barnes as it was leaving a Walmart parking lot.

"The motive is unknown right now", Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland said in a statement to CNN. A total of 5 occupants in the auto witnessed this innocent child, their loved one, shot and killed before their eyes.

Three other girls were in the auto, but it wasn't immediately clear if they also are related to the woman, who authorities say was shot in the arm. "So senseless. It's never easy, and extra hard during the holiday season", Gonzalez tweeted.

Investigators said they don't know what led to the shooting.

The suspect, who was still at large as of Sunday morning, "is considered armed and risky", Razo told reporters. If you know anything please contact us asap.

At a media briefing, Harris County Sheriff's Office Major Jesse Razo advised the public that the killer may confide in someone about the crime, and urged anyone with information to come forward.
