Star Alabama defensive tackle Quinnen Williams must be licking his chops at the opportunity of going up against reigning Heisman victor Kyler Murray and the Oklahoma Sooners in the CFP Semifinals this coming Saturday.
In the final 2 minutes, Trevor Lawrence connected with Ross on a 42-yard score and with Tee Higgins for a one-handed, 19-yard touchdown reception - again over Vaughn - with 2 seconds left in the second quarter. It's Alabama 45, Oklahoma 34, as the Heisman Trophy victor has thrown for two touchdowns and now run for another. Murray, who has had a legendary season with more than 4,000 passing yards and 54 touchdowns, along with winning the Heisman Trophy.
While the Sooners should be able to score, the biggest concern heading into this game, and the reason the spread is so high, is whether they can stop Alabama. Just all-around, I think it was a night we let the team down. Freshman receiver Justyn Ross had six catches for 148 yards and two long touchdowns. "So I'm sure it'll be a real challenge for us, and I'm sure we'll need to play better then than we did today". Riley has been to the playoff in both of his two years with Oklahoma. I think that's why we're recruiting the way we are and that's obviously I think one of the first places that you see it.
OU fifth-year senior linebacker Curtis Bolton said, "We just flat-out didn't play good enough". There's not a lot of short quarterbacks in the league, but I think there's more guys paving the way for the transition of not really caring how big you are, how tall you are.
"I always felt like it might be, honestly", Murray said.
Saturday night, Mullen and the Gators saw how far they have to go, how far everybody in the SEC has to go, how far everybody but Clemson has to go.
"They're a good team, so they got off to a great start and we didn't".
Murray fought, too, and after the slow start, he did everything he could to get Oklahoma back in the game. I feel like we've started to... we kinda started out a few years ago saying, hey, we've gotta be more current.
Oklahoma's quarterback and the reigning Heisman Trophy victor was still dealing with a cough and some sniffles Thursday, two days before the fourth-ranked Sooners will face top-ranked Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinals at the Orange Bowl.
At that a point, the referee allegedly came to the OU sideline and said, "Fellas, you're on your own". They're not what we shoot for. Maybe, we can finish that sentence for you. "If we could have done anything morning, he caught eight, we probably should have thrown him about 20", Riley said.
The Joe Moore Award for best offensive line is much heavier, and a lot of the things being said about the Crimson Tide defense before the College Football Playoff semifinal at Hard Rock Stadium also appeared to be weighing on team as well.
The question now, of course, is what Murray (and his coach, Lincoln Riley) will decide to do in the coming weeks.
