What's open and closed on Christmas and Boxing Day in Ottawa

Christmas is always a holiday for the federal government but presidents in the past have made their own judgment calls when Christmas Eve falls mid-week.

East Dundee, West Dundee and Carpentersville village halls are closed Christmas Eve but open New Year's Eve.

Last year, Christmas Eve fell on a Sunday, so government employees did not get an extra day off.

VPPSA Compost Facility, OPEN until 1 p.m. on Monday, CLOSED Tuesday.

On December 25 to January 1 the following services will be unavailable: on demand/specialized services dispatch, customer service centre, which includes the public front counter, call centre and lost and found.

Lloyds pharmacy located inside Sainsbury's at the Leamington Shopping Park (known as the Shires) will be open 8am to 7pm on Christmas Eve; closed on Christmas Day; open 10am to 4pm on Boxing Day, open 8am to 7pm on New Year's Eve and open 9am to 5pm.

The city also posted information about transit service next week.

First United Bank will be closed on Christmas Day.

Curbside Recycling, Blue week, one day delay.

The order, which was issued Tuesday, says all "executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government shall be closed" Monday.

The Social Security Administration will close up entirely for Christmas Eve and Christmas though.

Library branches will close at 1 p.m. on December 24 and reopen on December 27.
