The Houstonian, the student newspaper at Sam Houston State University, identified the bride and groom as university seniors Will Byler and Bailee Ackerman Byler in a post reporting the accident.

cWill Byler, of Bellville, and Bailee Ackerman, of Orangefield, were killed "as they flew off in the family helicopter" as they left their "fairy tale wedding", a family friend wrote in a Facebook post.

Saturday night's tragedy also killed the helicopter pilot, named as Jerry, with the National Transportation Safety Board now set to probe what made the Bell 206B crash.

According to the couple's wedding website, they were to be married Saturday in Uvalde, where the Byler family ranch is located. Their helicopter reportedly crashed just north of Uvalde. "We ask that you keep the families in your thoughts and prayers", said a tweet from the school paper.

People in the couple's community took to Facebook to share their condolences and remember the couple by posting photos of their engagement.

The Uvalde County Sheriff's Office said it received a call from an aviation monitoring center about a possible downed aircraft in northwest Uvalde around midnight.

Ackerman and Byler had been classmates in university, where they were both members of the rodeo team.

The DPS and the Federal Aviation Adminstration are investigating the incident.

"I love them both so dearly and they will always be so special to me", she said.
