Cubs set for tiebreaker game to settle NL Central

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the final day of the season tied for the National League West lead, meaning they need a bit of help to clinch the division title on Sunday.

Last season, the Rockies lost in the NL Wild Card game to the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix and were bounced without hosting a playoff game. The 1946 pennant was also decided by a best-of-three tiebreaker, with the Cardinals beating Brooklyn in two straight.

A one-game playoff in 1980 was no better for the Dodgers, who were beaten 7-1 by Houston for the NL West championship. That said, Marquez has yet to face the new look lineup for Los Angeles, who made moves to acquire several names before the trade deadline, including Manny Machado and Brian Dozier.

It might not have quite the same drain as the opening rounds of the NCAA tournament, but Monday's one-game divisional playoffs are going to put a serious dent in workplace productivity.

Marquez's most recent appearance against the Dodgers was June 30th, in which he hurled an absolute gem, striking out nine batters on his way to an eight inning, two-hit, one run performance. That game went 13 innings, with Colorado prevailing 9-8 when Matt Holliday may or may not have touched the plate when he was credited with the winning run. Marquez has won twice at Dodgers Sadium this year, finishing with a 2.57 ERA in the series. Davis, however, was getting attention for a different reason Sunday. His career average is.248.

The Atlanta Braves are NL East champions and will play in the NL Division Series against. somebody.

The Colorado Rockies can still win their first ever National League West title. The game will air on ESPN and first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
