Todd Phillips Reveals First Look at Joaquin Phoenix in ‘Joker’ Movie

The Instagram share comes from Todd Phillips, the director of Warner Bros. upcoming Joker movie. It's technically not even confirmed that Phoenix is this movie's Joker, just that he's the star.

Back in July,That Hashtag Show reported that Arthur Fleck will be the Joker's name before he becomes Batman's greatest nemesis.

While Phoenix is not pictured with the Joker's traditional clown makeup or green hair, it is quite interesting to see what the man looks like before his big transition. He boops him. It's cute.

We know that Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz (Atlanta, Deadpool 2) and Marc Maron (Glow) do have roles. There are some set photos out there, too. And sure, in all likelihood, yes, he's Gotham City's so-called Clown Prince of Crime.

The world doesn't need a Joker origin movie, but it's getting one anyway. It also boasts a modest $55 million price tag, which is significantly lower than most other tentpole flicks in the genre.

On that note, according to a Hollywood Reporter story last month, both Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill are on their way out as Batman and Superman respectively in the DC Extended Universe.

A set of images of Joaquin on set were also shared on JustJared where Phoenix can be seen laughing manically and playing with a clown.

We do not yet have the vintage Joker look of Phoenix yet. The actor and Phillips have revealed that the film is not going to be a normal superhero movie, stating that it's going to be a relatively low-budget character study instead, which sounds pretty intriguing.
