Pittsburgh Steelers: 3 Standouts from Week 1 vs. Browns

Though I'm not a Clevelander or even a Browns fan, their cause does seem like a worthy sports cause to cheer for as any.

But I'm betting the Browns want that old thang back.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon (12) reacts after catching a 17-yard touchdown pass during the second half of an NFL football game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, in Cleveland. Rodgers threw three touchdown passes, including a 75-yarder to Randall Cobb with 2:13 left in the game.

The Cleveland Browns now sit 0-0-1 after beating the Pittsburgh Steelers in nearly every facet of the game, yet still only managing to eek out a tie.

Jackson said after the game that he did not intend for Gordon to start, but the Browns' personnel grouping called by offensive coordinator Todd Haley sent Gordon out for the opening offensive snap. I felt my feet get down. "It's not just because I'm the backup cornerback, or I come into a game at a certain point in time".

It was the league's first Week 1 tie since 1971, and the first time in 133 games the Browns and Steelers couldn't settle their rivalry on the field.

Gordon was able to show off his athleticism and playmaking abilities despite missing more than three weeks of training camp while tending to personal matters, as well as the entire preseason because of those issues and a hamstring injury that happened upon his return to the organization.

"He is the quarterback", Jackson said of Taylor. "There is no question about that".

The Browns had the ball in Steelers territory near the end of regulation, but Tyrod Taylor threw an interception while trying to force a deep ball to Josh Gordon.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger hardly looked like a future Hall of Famer, throwing three interceptions in the first half and losing two fumbles.

"Leash?" Jackson said. "We are trying to win". "If we didn't know it already, we know it now". Uninterested in signing the franchise tender the Pittsburgh Steelers offered him in lieu of a blockbuster contract, he remains away from the team.
