Thomas Markle, 73, dramatically pulled out of his daughter's wedding, throwing plans into chaos just days before the ceremony at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

"At that point she said, 'It's Harry.' And I said, 'Oh Harry, okay.' And she said, 'Of course, we'll have to call him H so no-one knows we're talking about Harry".

Thomas Markle, the father of Britain's newest royal Meghan, has spoken of his regret that he wasn't well enough to walk his daughter down the aisle as she married Prince Harry, but said he was pleased that Harry's father Charles was able to step in.

Mere weeks after their own wedding, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry attended another very special wedding this weekend. "That upsets me somewhat".

The Duchess of Sussex's father, Thomas Markle, has revealed his sadness at not walking his daughter down the aisle.

In a 30 minute interview with Good Morning Britain on Monday, Thomas spoke about a number of things - from his early conversations with Prince Harry to the way he felt watching his daughter walk down the aisle.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were also present at the wedding, with Markle choosing a blue and white floral Oscar de la Renta dress and white heels for the occasion.

"I realised it was a serious mistake".

"They were disappointed but they both said - and Meghan cried, I'm sure, she did cry - and they both said take care of yourself, we're really anxious about you", he explained. I was jealous, I wish I had been there, I wish it'd been me.

When asked about details of the Brexit conversation, he said: "It was just a loose conversation". I'll be ready to go.

Celia was seen wearing the Spencer Tiara, which her aunt Diana had worn on her wedding day to Prince Charles, on her special day.

And in a final word of thanks, he added of Prince Charles, "I can't think of a better replacement than Mr Charles".

"She's a smart girl and she made a good pick, didn't she", Markle said in the interview.

He watched the wedding from California, where he was recovering from heart surgery. And I feel bad about it. "I apologize for it and that's all I can do". He said that after that incident, he was still planning to attend the wedding, but then could not because of his health.

After the story broke, Thomas said he spoke with both Harry and Meghan and apologized for his actions.

"My daughter is capable of anything", said the proud dad.
