The movie will explore the sacrifices and the cost - on Armstrong and on the nation - of one of the most risky missions in history.

"La La Land" made Chazelle the youngest best director victor in Academy Award history, which only sets the anticipation bar higher for the director's upcoming "First Man".

Ryan Gosling plays Armstrong with a cropped haircut and intense frown, while Claire Foy is the obligatory anxious wife.

So far, the Best Picture race appears to be MAJOR SLIM PICKENS so First Man will be like that first hunk of meat thrown to starving lions.

The trailer shows the challenges that came with the Apollo 11 mission, as well as the toll it took on Armstrong and his family. It is Damien Chazelle's second film working with Gosling. Mowgli, Aviron's Serenity and Annapurna's Where'd You Go, Bernadette? "There are risks but, we have every intention of coming back", Gosling's Armstrong replies. Chazelle explains: "we wanted to tell the story about one of the most epic accomplishments in human history, but root it very much in the intimate and the day to day details of what it was actually like".

First Man has been given an October 12 release date by Universal Pictures, which is in the midst of one of the most crowded months of the year.

Also starring Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, Kyle Chandler, Patrick Fugit, Ciaran Hinds, Ethan Embry, Shea Whigham, Corey Stoll and Pablo Schreiber, see the trailer below.
