Manchester United target Fred has flown to England with the Brazil national team ahead of potentially completing a transfer to Old Trafford.

While many media outlets have said United are trying to get a deal done before the World Cup, well respected journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that a deal has now been agreed.

But as Fernandinho's strong performances continued into the second half of the season, Guardiola decided that there was no need to rock the boat by signing Fred at that time.

Safe to say it's not going to be a quiet transfer window at all for the Red Devils.

Fred told reporters: "There was a possible transfer to City".

Two players that Manchester United are desperate for could make their moves before the 2018 FIFA World Cup that starts from June 14 onwards.

He will be part of Brazil's squad that will play against Croatia at Anfield and is known for his all-action displays.

Fred, 25, has been heavily linked with Manchester City, but they have since turned their attentions to Napoli midfielder Jorginho, leaving the way clear for United to negotiate with Shakhtar.

United are close to agreeing a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred as well as Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld.

The move for the midfielder is not a surprising one.

The Reds, like City, also considered Lazio's Sergej Milinković-Savić, but neither club was willing to spend over €100million.

Michael Carrick has retired and Marouane Fellaini may not sign a new contract, leaving Mourinho short of players in the middle of the park.

Fred is a box to box midfielder, known for his incisive passing and through balls. They offered us around €50m for Fred. "I'm sure, contractually, to stay at Manchester United".
