The New York Police Department announced in a brief statement he was "arrested, processed and charged with rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for incidents involving two separate women".

As he surrendered, Weinstein found himself surrounded by lights and cameras in a spectacle he couldn't control.

Weinstein's many accusers were watching the events unfold, and some of them shared their emotions on social media.

"The man who pinned me down had handcuffs on him today", she said triumphantly at another point in the interview.

He agreed to pay $1 million in cash as part of a prenegotiated bail package, with a Manhattan judge also ordering him to wear an electronic monitor and surrender his passport. Weinstein didn't enter a plea. Both happened in NY. Weinstein has apologized for his behavior but denied accusations of 'non-consensual sex'. "I think, if anything, we have contributed to victims finally being believed".

A source tells ET that Weinstein did post bail and left the courthouse following his arraignment.

She also told the Associated press that she hopes attending the trials will be therapeutic. "This is a big strike into the heart of abuse of power, and it shows people worldwide - which is what I was hoping [for] the whole time - that this will not stand".

Louise Godbold was one of dozens of actresses, models and ex-employees who went public previous year with bombshell allegations of sexual assault and harassment. "Because one win is a win for all of us", McGowan said. In another tweet: "What took you so long Harvey?"

"Today's charges reflect significant progress in this active, ongoing investigation", said Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, thanking "brave survivors" for coming forward and urging others to call a sex crimes hotline.

"For every woman who spoke in this story, it's an incredible and unexpected moment".

"Mr Weinstein did not invent the casting couch".

No: As the criminal complaint charges and dozens of women (many of them A-list stars) have testified, it's a case of Weinstein forcing himself on his victims and then using his money and power to buy their silence.

Our sources say prosecutors are looking at at least one actress whom Weinstein flew from one state to another.

Yet speaking to CNN's Jim Sciutto on Friday, Farrow admitted that today, the day of Harvey Weinstein's arrest, has been a "complicated day".

He didn't say a word, according to Page Six.

Harvey Weinstein leaves the First Precinct police station in New York City, May 25, 2018.

In an earlier time, both would have been likely film projects for the disgraced movie mogul, who pleaded not guilty to charges he raped one woman and forced another to perform oral sex.

The New York charges are the first against Weinstein, even though several other cities opened up investigations into the producer in the wake of the reporting on the allegations.

Almost 100 women have now accused Weinstein of crimes ranging from sexual harassment to assault and rape going back decades.
