Mumbai Indians playing a must-win game against Kolkata Knight Riders, who were at the third spot in the table, were sent in to bat first.

KKR, on the other hand, remain in the top-four with 10 points after their fifth loss in 10 matches. That ensured Mumbai Indians did not make a mess of the start given by a 91-run opening stand between Suryakumar Yadav (59 off 39) and Evin Lewis (43 off 28). Hardik Pandya became MI's savior with the ball as well- with figures of 2/19 in four overs. Narine and Russel managed a couple of wickets each.

1- In a head-to-head contest, 17 times Mumbai have defeated Kolkata, most by any IPL team. Rana contributed with 31 runs, facing 27 balls.

Pandya was the pick of the MI bowlers picking up 2 for 19. Uthappa made use of the reprieve, batting to his 23rd IPL fifty and notching up 4,000 runs in the event. But the leg-spinner compensated for the mistake. In his absence, young and promising Shubman Gill opened the innings for KKR with Lynn. However Rana and Uthapa's partnership took the team score to 112 in 12.3 overs when Uthapa was caught by Cutting.

Robin Uthappa was lucky to see Markande drop a sitter at mid-on when he was on four.

Top scorer Jos Buttler (51) was outfoxed with a carrom ball and was caught behind before Mujeeb clean bowled Jofra Archer with a ideal googly off the next ball as Rajasthan lost its last six wickets for 52 runs.

Mujeeb started Rajasthan's slide when Ben Stokes was caught at long off after Mayank Agarwal leapt close to the boundary edge, caught the ball over his head and while going off balance relayed the ball back to Manoj Tiwari to complete the catch. KKR's skipper Dinesh Karthik tried harder to be on the winning side but was not supported much by the next line of batsman Russel and Narine. Total: (for 6 wkts, in 20 overs) 168. Uthappa, the former Mumbai batsman, was batting on four then and he nearly took the game away by scoring his maiden fifty of the season. After the match when Hardik Pandya was asked about his batting he said, "I am not doing anything special it is same like what you do in some special day, I think differently".

Although the position of both the teams remains same after the end of this match, with KKR and MI remaining at 4 and 5 number, MI's hope of making it to qualifiers is inching closer.
