WDEL and the News Journal are reporting that former GOP Senate Candidate and former University of DE communications official, Meredith Chapman, was killed last night at a home in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania in what sources are describing as a murder-suicide. "The wife knew about it, and this was a calculated, planned attack".
Officials said this was a "thought-out plan" that likely involved Jennair Gerardot putting on a disguise and taking public transit from DE to break into Chapman's home and wait for her to return. She broke into the home and waited for Chapman to arrive.
Police said Gerardot shot Chapman around 7 p.m. when she walked in the door. She then waited for Chapman to return home, according to authorities.
Chapman was married to Luke Chapman, Newark city councilman who recently announced that he would not be seeking a fourth term, reported Pennsylvania radio station WHYY - where Jennair had worked as a reporter/producer in the past.
"Villanova University was informed last night about the death of Meredith Chapman", said Jonathan Gust, a Villanova University spokesman.
Police say she was the victim of a murder-suicide carried out by Jennair Gerardot, 47, of Wilmington, Delaware, 47, of Wilmington, Delaware.
Mark Gerardot reported to Chapman at the University of DE, working as a creative director. She broke into the house. "The thoughts and prayers of the entire university community are with her family, friends and colleagues during this extremely hard time".
Chapman, a former communication manager for then-Rep. "May her light forever shine brightly as we commit to preserving her legacy by coming together to find common ground, lifting up our communities, and doing right by our neighbors". The former UD cheerleader also coached the sport at Newark High School.

She was a pioneer in the use of social and digital media at the university and held managerial positions in marketing and communications.
Gerardot had gone to a restaurant where he thought he'd be meeting Chapman for dinner.
According to Jennair Gerardot's LinkedIn account, the DE wife worked as a marketing manager for a South Carolina-based manufacturing company called Circor Instrumentation for five years, leaving the outlet in December.
The couple lived and worked in IN, including together at Gerardot & Co., a branding & package design agency co-founded by Mark, until 2011.
