Former Barcelona player and Brazil worldwide Rivaldo is making an argument that his countryman Neymar will not be able to fulfill his ambition of being the best player in the world at Paris Saint-Germain.
Although he has performed well in his debut season at Parc des Princes, the notable lack of competition in French football means he is unlikely to contest for the Ballon d'Or that he so desperately wants.
Both Brazilian attackers had successful spells at Barcelona but Rivaldo won the Ballon d'Or in 1999 while at the Nou Camp. "It is there, in Madrid, where I believe that he can become the best player in the world".
Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has reportedly backed Brazil global Neymar to join Manchester United this summer. "I think he'll do his job well and help Brazil win the World Cup, that's what I hope, that's what all Brazil hopes".
Speaking to GloboEsporte's Esporte Espetacular he said: 'It is very likely that Neymar will go to Madrid.
Neymar has had an up-and-down experience at PSG, since he was signed from Barcelona for a record 222 million euros ($264 million) past year, making him the world's most expensive player.
'The football for him, if he is to be the best in the world, has to be in Spain.
"If you're going to analyse, there's England, Spain, Italy, Germany - all different - but I'm talking about competitive football".
Spanish sports daily Marca have claimed that Neymar could leave PSG in the close season of 2019 for 222 million euros, the same fee for which he arrived from Barcelona.
"It would be hard for him to go back to Barcelona".
Were Neymar to actually make the move to Madrid he would enrage all associated with Barcelona with whom he won the Champions League and two La Liga titles.
