Sellers told the Post: "I mean, I still can't believe I finished second". It was so cold and wet she couldn't even squeeze her water bottle.

She has a golden retriever named Boston, and had another named Miles who died past year.

Linden said she tapped Flanagan early on and shared her plans: "Hey, I think I'm going to drop out today, so if you need any help with anything, let me know".

The two-time Olympian and 2011 Boston runner-up pulled away at the end of Heartbreak Hill to finish in 2 hours, 39 minutes, 54 seconds.

Spencer and his sister Penny are therapy dogs, and it turns out Spencer is a fan of the Boston marathon - this was his third time spectating.

After slogging through just a few miles of icy rain and a near-gale headwind that made her feel like she was running in place, Desiree Linden decided she'd seen enough of the Boston Marathon for another year. I don't want to take anything away from Desiree Linden's spectacular and gutsy win in the women's race, but another race was happening at the same time that WBZ ignored nearly completely. It marked her first major marathon victory.

Instead of speeding ahead, Linden slowed down so she could help Flanagan back into the leaders' pack. "Looking at my time going into the race, I shouldn't be on the same page as any the women the top 20 women ..." "I didn't run with the professionals, and because of that, they said I wasn't eligible for the prize".

Lillard and Sellers both graduated from Weber State University, a Big Sky Conference school in Ogden, Utah. "She's a little bit taller, so you'd think the wind would be detrimental, but she's really strong".

In two years, Sarah will go to the qualifier for the Olympic trials, the top three runners from that marathon will earn a place on the Olympic team.

But a broken bone in her foot saw her hang up her shoes for a full year and by the time she was fine to pound the pavement, her priority was completing medical school.

Sellers attended Weber State, where she was a standout track and field and cross-country runner from 2009 to 2012.

Sellers now lives in Tucson, Arizona with her husband Blake.

So who the heck is Sarah Sellers?
