It's unclear what sort of pay cut Marshall had agreed to, but the team ultimately saved slightly less than $5 million in salary cap space with his release. In October, his season was cut short due t him having to have surgery on his left ankle. Brandon Marshall should have realized that before sending out what is now an unfortunate post to his Instagram story on Wednesday.
The Ravens were interested in Marshall last offseason before he signed with the Giants.
Marshall had been a constant presence at the Giants facility since his injury. He caught 18 passes for 154 yards with no touchdowns in five appearances. "I'm not just playing this game just to be a guy; I want to be remembered for the product that I put out on the field. So, these last few years have been tough-last year with the Jets, this year with the Giants-but I'm hopeful that the next couple years for me will be some incredible years and some of my best work".
Marshall was selected by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft and went on to have stints with the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears and New York Jets before landing with the Giants.
Marshall told Ralph Vacchiano of SNY in December he was close to getting full clearance and planned to play for at least a couple more seasons.
