Lorde has apologized after inadvertently posting an insensitive caption to her Instagram account Thursday evening.

Lorde has come under fire for an Instagram post that many fans seemed to interpret as the 21-year-old singer poking fun at the late Whitney Houston.

Lorde has since deleted the unintentionally offensive post and has issued an apology to fans via her Instagram Story. "I'm an idiot. Love Whitney forever and ever Sorry again".

American singer-actress Whitney Houston died in a bathtub in 2012 in Los Angeles after accidentally drowning.

An autopsy later discovered she has traces of cocaine, marijuana and prescription medication in her system - though ex Bobby Brown insists she died of a broken heart.

The film will be released in cinemas on 6 July 2018.

"Lorde is probably sitting in the tub not realizing what she just did", a person wrote on Instagram.

Lorde apologised for the insensitive post about this bath. Whitney Houston's version of the song-penned by Dolly Parton in 1973-became a huge hit after it featured on the soundtrack of The Bodyguard in 1992. The shocking post was made to her Instagram and eventually deleted, but eagle-eyed followers who caught the faux pas in real time screen-capped it so we'll never forget.

The Kiwi singer is still on her North American tour.

That's all, folks. Now Lorde will go back to singing about how she is Lorde and hopefully no one will hold her truly "could've had a V8" moment against her.
