Child Protective Services says knowing the signs of abuse is important.
If one child in our community is abused, that is one too many.
Tina Bartleson, executive director of the Exchange Club Family Resource Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse believes the number of confirmed cases involves stepped up efforts of intervention services as well as a change in the standards for substantiation for DFCS.
Here at home in Alabama, in 2016 there were almost 40,000 unduplicated child abuse and neglect reports and approximately 10,000 victims, according to the most recent Alabama Kids Count Data Book.
Each pinwheel represents a substantiated case of child abuse or neglect in Floyd County past year. "If a child has a change in behavior, has a fear of going home". "Together, we can stand up to demand that children are protected and speak out to encourage adults to make it happen in our community". Child abuse can also affect broader health outcomes into adolescence and adulthood.
"Part of the "five basic" essentials established by CIS are providing a safe place for youngsters to learn and grow and provide a healthy start and a healthy future", Woodberry said. Of the interviews conducted at the center, 58 percent involved allegations of sexual abuse; 61 percent of the alleged victims were girls, and 39 percent boys. All hotline calls are routed to the county where a child resides.
This event led the way for "Go Blue Lubbock", an annual project by the South Plains Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention and community partners to help fight against child abuse.
"We will give our policy demands to the parliament, government and the president's office on Monday", said Odontuya Tsolmon, one of the protest organizers. The pinwheel garden serves as an uplifting reminder of childhood and the bright futures all children deserve.
